Mr. Bruce Creighton of Kempsey in NSW
David of Historic Connections sent me another envelope containing 6x9 cm negatives and contact prints. There is a faded stamp on the envelope that I interpreted as "RIEFFENBERG PHARMACY - KEMPSEY" but I am less certain about the name of the pharmacy. At the back of the envelope "Mr. Bruce Creighton" is written in black ink. Once again, there is some uncertainty about the family name as the writing is almost completely faded. A quick search revealed the following note on page 2 of Kempsey Macleay Argus newspaper dated February 6, 1951:
BRUCE CREIGHTON, who has been on the staff of the North George Street branch of the National Bank, in the city, has been transferred to the branch at Kempsey ..
We don't know if this is the same person or even if I read the name on the envelope correctly. Without access to the newspaper we can't tell if this sentence refers to events that happened in 1951 or provides some background facts about Mr. Creighton.
Dating the images based on their content is not an easy task. The registration number on the vehicle clearly seen on two images is WX-147. This format of registration plates was used in NSW from 16 of April 1937 when the first number AA-000 was issued to 3 of May 1951 when the range was exhausted, the last number in the series being ZZ-999. Thus, the earliest year, when this photograph could be taken would be somewhere in the 1940s, most likely towards the end of the decade. Obviously, old cars with old registration numbers could be and still are in use and this offers no help in narrowing down the latest time the images could be taken.
